Playmags 3D Magnetic Building Blocks – Independent Product Review

Independent product review from Adele Crozier founder of Playful Learners.

Playmags are magnetic building blocks that attach together on all sides to form many different shapes and structures. These tiles connect easily encouraging children to move from constructing two-dimensional to three-dimensional creations!

We have been enjoying Playmags in our setting for the last few months. When they first arrived we decided store them at the children’s height to allow them to access them freely. We had no idea how popular the Playmags would be. The children love them and have been using them daily in a wide variety of ways.

Playmags (available to order in 100 or 150 pieces) come with instructions on how to build some simple structures. We initially used the instructions to encourage the children to start using the Playmags however the children soon started using their imagination to create their own ways of playing with the tiles, building the tallest of towers and a train track around the room!

A few weeks on and the Playmags are still hugely popular and have started to be incorporated into play with other materials. Watching how the children use the tiles to make their own art has been the most interesting to me. Watching the children’s faces as they discover that they can use the tiles to mix colours and create interesting shapes on the light table, through a window or reflecting onto the floor has been priceless.

The Playmags have been a wonderful addition to the resources in our setting and as a robust quality toy I’m sure their uses will continue to expand. They have proven to be great resources in helping children’s spatial awareness, problem solving, logical thinking and mathematical reasoning.

You can find more fun ideas for using Playmags in our activities on my blog.
