The Baby Room Evacuation Trolley is an important concept in assisting the professional evacuation of babies in an emergency. Best practice emergency procedures require that rapid evacuation be carried out in a ‘once only’ operation, with no re-entry into the building. The required supervision ratio in the baby room of 1 to 3 makes this procedure difficult to co-ordinate effectively. This Trolley allows up to six babies to be evacuated and held safely in the care of two nursery nurses.
The main compartment is divided into three so that standing toddlers can be put next to new born babies lying down. Importantly evacuation of the baby room can be completed without assistance from outside staff. The trolley also maintains the babies in clean, safe and comfortable environment at the assembly point whilst the emergency is dealt with. It has been developed in conjunction with Nottinghamshire Fire Service and researched with local authority inspectors and nursery practitioners. It has a heavy duty steel frame with industrial strength castors and uses high tenacity fire retardant PVC and mesh fabric.
